Deep Valley Tree Farm
Quercus palustris (Pin Oak)
This tree is a truly robust specimen, with lower branches that curve down, middle branches that go horizontally, with the upper branches curving upwards. It grows slowly, like all oaks, but can withstand a fairly broad range of climates. The leaves form late, and are one of the last to drop in winter. It's roots go deep, almost as tall as the tree itself, in soft soil, which can make it difficult to transplant. The tree grows to 60 - 70 feet in height, with a spread of 25 - 40 feet, in zones 4 - 8. The leaves are dark green, with 5 - 7 lobes, changing to bronze or red in the fall. This is an excellent landscaping tree.
